Handmade ceramics from Mateus!

Chi mi segue da un po' sa che ho un debole per le ceramiche; l'ultima volta che toccai 

l'argomento parlai di un'azienda italiana unica nel suo genere, Ceramiche Virginia. 

Oggi invece vi porto in terra straniera, dove la tradizione portoghese abbraccia il forte 

interesse svedese per la moda e il design in "una combinazione ideale": Mateus ceramics.

My loyal readers know that I really love ceramics; the last time I talked about that I

spoke about a unique italian company, Virginia Ceramics. Today I would like to bring 

you in a foreign land, where portuguese tradition embraces the strong swedish interest

for fashion and design in "an ideal combination": Mateus Ceramics.

Avete mai sentito parlare di mudroom?

Avete mai sentito parlare di "mudroom"? La prima volta che vidi questa parola su un

magazine americano pensai subito ad un errore di battitura (ahimè); invece questo

termine esiste eccome ed ha un significato curioso. La parola mudroom letteralmente 

tradotta significa "stanza del fango" e rappresenta infatti un piccolo vano solitamente 

collocato all'entrata di un'abitazione dove ci si tolgono scarpe e stivali sporchi di fango

 prima di entrare in casa, al termine di quelle lunghe giornate invernali buie e piovose.

Have you ever heard something about the word "mudroom"? The first time I saw this

word on an american magazine I immediately said to my self "It's a typo"! Instead this

term  does exist and it has a curious meaning. The mudroom is a small room usually

placed at the entrance of a house where the people take off muddy shoes and boot before

enter inside, at the end of those long, rainy and dark winter days.

Questi ambienti sono infatti molto comuni in Alaska e in tutti i paesi nordici molto piovosi.

A schiarirmi le idee è stata Sarah (Shabby Chic Interiors) che in uno dei suoi ultimi post 

racconta la costruzione di un piccolo angolo di casa sua con le caratteristiche di una vera

e propria mudroom. E a voi piacerebbe averne una? 

These kind of room are in fact very common in Alaska and in all the nordic countries very

 wet. To clear my head was Sarah (Shabby Chic Interiors) who tells in one of her post the

construction of a small corner in her house with the characteristics of a true mudroom.

McQueens florist in London!

dopo un lungo silenzio estivo eccomi di nuovo pronta a digitare milioni di parole da 

condividere insieme a voi... mi siete mancate! Come avete trascorso la vostra estate? Io

 ho deciso di riaprire la stagione A/I di Violet Wool con questo post che racchiude in sè 

l'inconfondibile profumo di fiori di Old Street, nel cuore di Londra; è proprio dal 

McQueens florist Shop che si sprigiona un mix di fragranze floreali, il più famoso 

negozio di fiori di tutta la Gran Bretagna.

I'm still ready to share with you a lot of story from my blog after my long summer

silence... I really missed you! How did you spent your summer? I decided to re-open the 

Violet Wool's Autumn/Winter season with this post which contains the unmistakable 

flowers scent od Old Street, in the heart of London; it's from here inside at McQueens 

florist Shop that is released a mix of floral fragrances, from the most famous flower 

shop in Britain.

Il McQueens Shop è una di quelle tappe obbligatorie a Londra;  fondato da Kally Ellis nel 

1991, è stato il pioniere del nuovo stile inglese floreale. Oggi McQueens è un marchio 

affermato e il suo nome in pochi anni si è diffuso in tutto il Regno Unito, negli Stati Uniti,

in Giappone. Oltre a decorare i corner di alcuni dei negozi più famosi di Londra come 

ACNE, Harrods, Cartier, gli stylist di McQueens vestono anche numerosi eventi di fama 

mondiale come il Vanity Fair post-Academy Award Party. Nella foto ecco uno dei ragazzi 

del vincente team targato McQueens al lavoro!

The McQueens Shop is an obligatory stop in London; founded by Kally Ellis in 1991, has 

been a pioneer in the new English style of floristry. Today McQueens is a famous

trademark and his name in a few years has become important in the United Kingdom,

in the United States, in Japan and beyond. Besides decorating the corners of some of the

most famous shops in London as ACNE, Harrods, Cartier, the McQueens stylist have 

dressed also numerous events world-renowned as the Vanity Fair post-Academy Award

Una giornata londinese meravigliosa, la mia. Ho avuto la fortuna di incontrare anche

 la fondatrice di McQueens, una donna dolce e determinata allo stesso tempo, dalle idee 

chiare e le parole convincenti: "avevo un unico obiettivo: vendere fiori semplici ma 

eleganti e ben presentati per il mercato di Londra. E sapevo che le persone li 

avrebbero apprezzati". Di fama mondiale è anche la McQueens Floristry School, 

anch'essa situata nel negozio di Old Street; questa scuola raccoglie e forma giovani 

provenienti da tutto il mondo!

It was a wonderful day in London for me. I was lucky enough to meet even the McQueens

founder, Kally Ellis, a sweet and determined woman at the same time, with clear ideas 

and and convincing words: "I wanted to sell simple, stylish flowers, beautifully presented,

to the London market. And I knew people would love it". World-renowned is also the

McQueens Floristry School, also located in Old Street; this school admit a lot of young 

people from all over the world!

vortice "chimica" pre-esame! Oggi vorrei ispirarvi con queste meravigliose immagini

originaria dello Zimbawe, attualmente vive a Londra ed è madre di tre dolcissimi bimbi.

Forgive my few posts of the last days but I'm trapped in "chemistry vortex" pre exam!

Today I would like to inspire you with these wonderful pictures taken by Debi Treloar,

one of the most famous and talented interior photographers; Debi, who was born in

 Zimbawe, currently lives in London and she's mother of three sweet children. His pics

fill the pages of some of the most prestigious magazine in the world!

Ho scovato questo libro a Londra un pomeriggio, mentre gironzolavo tra gli scaffali di 

una delle librerie più belle che io abbia mai visto, Foyles; da quel giorno "Table Style: 101 

creative ideas for elegant and affordable entertaining" occupa un prestigioso posto nella mia top 5! 
Scorrendo il dito tra le pagine scritte da Liz Belton, autrice del libro, troverete ispirazione
 per mescolare pezzi basic e vintage con un tocco finale che fa la differenza!

I found this book in London when I wandered through the shelves of the most beautiful

library I've ever seen, Foyles; from that day "Table Style: 101 creative ideas for elegant

and affordable entertaining"  is in a prestigious place in my top 5! Flowing your finger

between the pages written by Liz Belton, author of this book, you will find inspirations

for mixing basic and vintage pieces with a touch that makes the difference!

Troverete varie sezioni all'interno del libro: "gli elementi", dove Liz offre suggerimenti 

sui vari componenti di una tavola invitante e "le occasioni", dove viene dato spazio al lato 

pratico per allestire ed imbandire tavole adatte ad ogni occasione. Liz accompagna inoltre 

il lettore in un viaggio per il mondo, mostrando la corretta mise en place per diversi tipi 

di culture: francese, americana, cinese, giapponese e perfino il tè pomeridiano inglese!

You will find various sections within the book: "the elements", where Liz provides 

recommendations about the various components of a table. "The opportunities", instead,

talk about the practical side to generate and fit out tables suitable for any occasion. Liz 

also accompanied the reader on a journey around the world, showing the proper mise en 

place for different cultures: French, America, Chinese, Japanese and even English tea!
